Banner exchanges allow you - as a website owner - to exchange traffic with other website owners. There are many different banner exchange programs available but the process to participate is the same for all of them. Sign up then upload your banner and add the HTML code onto your website (on as many pages as you want). Most banner exchanges offer a 2:1 ratio, which means that for each two banners you show on your website (two impressions) your banner is displayed once on another website.

Strategy

Join banner exchanges which give you extra credit for the people who sign up in that exchange through refferal link. By building up a downline in the banner exchanges that allow this you can generate "passive" traffic. Often you can get 10% or even 20% of the ad credits your downline generates. A page for webmasters with the banner exchanges listed and the code showing is all it takes to start building a downline. You can also submit articles, do hub pages, tweet about or share in another way and even email it to any lists you may have. What you gain is extra banner impressions everyday to be used as you wish! These are all popular banner exchanges with a large distribution network. The exposure is well worth the effort... truly "set and forget" free marketing with minimal effort!
